Dog fighting punishment

We are heartened by the conviction and sentencing of six individuals for their involvement in the underground world of dog fighting. Six men appeared in the Atteridgeville Magistrate’s Court and were found guilty for their part in dog fighting and animal cruelty offences.

All were sentenced to two and a half years of direct imprisonment with no part suspended and no option of a fine. These prison sentences, even though the accused pleaded guilty, reflect a shared sentiment amongst South African courts that dog fighting will not be tolerated. In this year alone, 12 criminals have been sentenced to prison time ranging from 12 months to 5 years.

Thank you to the SPCA personnel for their bravery in stamping out this horrible criminal activity and taking on criminals who are often dangerous and motivated by profit.
