With our community

It is a common misperception that SPCA branches across South Africa are financially supported by national government and by the NSPCA.

The reality is that every SPCA has to be established and then funded by the community it serves, in accordance with the strict operating guidelines and requirements of the NSPCA – much like a franchise.

The needs of all living creatures are attended to by the SPCA: pets and livestock, wildlife, birds, fish and reptiles. In the case of our own SPCA, a few decades ago, a group of concerned Mooi River townsfolk got together and, determined to make a difference to animal welfare in the district, set up a small branch of the SPCA, which was inaugurated on 5 March 1992.
